Javan Plays Baseball

Javan got a bat and ball for his birthday. He wasn't very interested in them at first, but now he loves to hit the ball. I would like to take credit for teaching him, but actually Kendra helped him figure out when to swing.

Ok, I had to answer the zoo question from this morning. Mr. Blank (no really, that's his name!) donated a slough of money to all sorts of projects in Iowa - including the zoo. In 1963 he donated 150K or something, and in 1966 the zoo officially opened. The "Park" part comes because the "Blank Zoo" doesn't sound as cool, and because the zoo's architecture was very "park" like.

Just FYI, he (and his family line) donated loads of money also to build the Blank Children's Hospital, and my personal favorite, the "BLANK Honor's center" in Iowa City at UI... I love that name for an honor's center. Blank.

There's some Iowa history!
